SPN Ep: The French Mistake

Apologies in advance. I'm sick and fairly heavily medicated right now, so disjointed thoughts are disjointed.

Is it possible to plagiarize yourself? This episode reminded me way too much of "Hollywood Babylon," which was also written by Ben Edlund. He does like to make fun of Kripke's scriptwriting though, doesn't he? Octocobra? Really? Syfy can run it as part of a double feature with Sharktopus.

The weird mix of "real" reality and "fake" reality kept distracting me by making me wonder why they went with one choice but not another. I can see why they got actors to play Kripke and Robert Singer, but why not have Clif play himself? He's acted on the show before. And why have the Jared and Jensen in their reality not speaking to each other?

Having Jared's wife play herself was a fun choice, even though I'm not a fan of her acting, especially since she had a major storyline on the show involving Sam. They didn't even have to Photoshop a wedding photo. I think this is the first thing I've seen her in since they got married, so I didn't realize she'd changed her professional name to Padalecki.

What was with the alpaca? I wish they could've used Harley and Sadie. I would've loved to have seen Sam's reaction to being tackled by Jared's big dogs.

I did enjoy some of the in jokes, the shout-out to Kim Manners (KM Motion Picture Studio), the teamwork between the boys, and Sam being willing to give up fame and fortune because it meant not being Dean's brother, and I liked the new Raphael, but the scene with Sam and Dean trying to act was excruciating and went on way too long.

I know the show usually has the Winchester stuff as the A story and the hunt as the B story, but this is one episode where I wish it had been the other way around. The A story flogged a cute concept to death, while the B story only had about 5 minutes' worth of plot.

It just bugged me that they mixed the real stuff with the satire stuff so much. I think I would've had an easier time of it if they just went with one or the other.
