SGA Ep: Remnants
Umm, I'm just going to go squee quietly in my corner now.
Action!Shep and Shep-whumping are a few of my favorite things.
I'm glad Kolya was imaginary rather than still alive in some implausible way. But why are all the really awesome action scenes hallucinations? Remember the great escape from the Replicator homeworld that ended with Sheppard staying on Atlantis to manually hit the self-destruct in "Progeny?" Now, his really awesome takedown of the Genii turned out to be all in his head too. Hmm. Between "Progeny," "Remnants," and "Doppelganger," it looks like the inside of Sheppard's head is not a good place to be. Heck, Sheppard was doing such a spectacular number on himself that even the AI couldn't take it and called the whole thing off.
The kicker is that everything Sheppard went through felt totally real to him at the time, so even though the torture was imaginary, the emotional trauma was real. And yet you just know that Sheppard is never going to breathe a word of what happened other than that an alien attempted to contact him through an imaginary Kolya, so no one will ever know. It'll be just one more thing he bottles up inside to torture himself with.
There's one thing I want to know, though. If Vanessa was imaginary and only Woolsey could see her, how did she operate the transporter for him when his hands were full?
And on a completely different note, I'm really glad that Keller isn't my doctor. "Hmm, I can't figure out what's wrong with you. Here, have some sleeping pills." She doles those things out like Tic Tacs. I thought the days of solving everyone's problems with 'mother's little helper' went out with the '70s.
All in all, two good episodes in a row. If only the trend continues, but I don't have high hopes for next week's episode.

I loved the (improbable) physical whump and I can accept that, since the AI was reflecting Sheppard's unconscious self) that there was actually some psychological whump. But the AI's inexplicable change of mind and the complete lack of acknowledgment of Sheppard's angst (another happy-go-lucky breakfast scene?!), completely destroyed whatever impact Mallozi was hoping for.
And it wasn't hard to spot that McKay was "hallucinating" from the start; if they wanted to truly hide it from us, they should have had Zelenka act like himself instead of an overly helpful myrmidon. Binder did a better job in Phantoms.
I wish Mallozi/Mullie would acknowledge that they have nothing new to contribute, writing-wise, and stick to producing.

I am disappointed that Mallozzi threw away the show's last chance to explore Sheppard's psyche and tell us why Sheppard is so hard on himself.
I was just over at Mallozzi's blog watching him lambaste the fans for jumping to conclusions about SGU. I was thiiiiis close to saying, "Dude, we're just reacting to (a) what you yourself have told us, and (b) your writing staff's track record over the course of five seasons of SG-1 and five seasons of SGA. If you couldn't manage any meaningful character development on those shows, why should we have faith you can do it on SGU?"

Possibly. But at what point did she stop? The transporter was supposed to take Woolsey from wherever the mess was to wherever his own quarters were, so if the AI handwaved it and only made Woolsey think he'd gone for a transporter ride, sooner or later Woolsey would have noticed that he wasn't where he thought he was on Atlantis.
I think it was actually Mallozzi who was handwaving it all.
