Haven Ep: A Tale of Two Audreys
Hi, show! I missed you! And I didn't even realize how much until you were back on again.
In last season's finale, Nathan was having the worst day ever when he discovered his dad was really his adoptive father, he discovered his biological father was the town sociopath who was imprisoned by Nathan's adoptive father, his adoptive father killed his biological father, and then his adoptive father died. Watching Nathan sitting on the beach hugging himself and radiating visible waves of emotional distress was the image that stuck with me all during the long hiatus, so I was a little disappointed at first that Nathan seemed to be holding up so well throughout the episode. I thought the show was going to gloss over it all in order to cover the other plot points. Then I got the scene at the end where Nathan was crying while digging his adoptive father's grave, which more than made up for it.
I also loved that Duke showed up to help dig. Duke and Nathan have a very complicated relationship, but I do like the few moments in each show where they actually get along.
I'm curious about what's going to happen once the Chief is buried though. The exploded bits of him in the cooler briefly moved on their own, and he did control the earth. I wonder if burying him will either allow him to reconstitute himself, or if he'll stay formless but still have control of the earth. I can just picture some bad guy trying to shoot Nathan only to have the ground under his feet move and knock the shot wild.
It looks like the Rev is going to be a major subplot this season. I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, I can't stand the guy and Nathan doesn't need the aggravation after everything he's been through. On the other hand, the fact that I can't stand him means he's doing a good job as an antagonist. I guess I just don't like watching people kick Nathan when he's down.
I hope the thing with the two Audreys is resolved soon and doesn't last all season. The Audrey/Audrey interaction is cutting into the Audrey/Nathan interaction.
And on a very tangential note, why do people insist on traumatizing their children with The Velveteen Rabbit? Seriously, there's not enough Prozac in the world to get me through that story.
