So I'm not normally one to trumpet my birthday on LJ, but this one is something of a milestone. I'm 40 years old today. I know! I can't believe it either. I have no idea how this happened, aside from my obvious failure to die up to this point. Honestly, I don't even feel 30 yet. This 40 thing just isn't sinking in at all.

Congratulations! Forty's a biggie, but I had less problems with 40 than I did with 45. When you're 45, suddenly you have to click that other button on surveys - the one that says "45-54". At 40 you can still say "I'm a young woman". At 45, you're kinda stuck being middle-aged.

Thanks!

My favorite survey ever was the one that gave me 2 age radio buttons: 'under 35' and 'over 35.' I was exactly 35 at the time.

Congratulations! I totally understand you. I turned 30 earlier this year and I just didn't *feel* it - I feel twenty-ish - but then the weirdest thing happened: Michael Jackson (one of my childhood stars) died and suddenly I *felt* it, I was like "OMG I'm 30 and MJ's dead." But, it lasts a few days and now I'm fine again. I'm sure you'll be too :-)

Thanks!

Weirdly, the oldest I've ever felt was when I was 17. I was talking about Star Wars with my BF (also 17 at the time), and a nearby 8-year-old turned to us and said, "Star Wars? Isn't that that old movie my parents like?" I have never felt so ancient in my life.

Of course, that 8-year-old would be 31 now, so neener neener.

You don't feel 40 because 40 is the new 20! (Only with more experience.)

Thank you for the sunflower! I've never gotten a virtual gift before.

The difference between my calendar age and how old I feel is really jarring right now.

Hey happy birthday! I'm not telling how old I am but trust me, I've been there. 40 is a big deal... if you want it to be. Otherwise it's just another birthday. But as Porkypine (from Pogo -- I'm dating myself) always said, you may not like getting older but it beats the alternative. (being something of a pessimist, he would also have appreciated your "obvious failure to die up to this point" comment.)

And your review of Warehouse 13 was spot on. Not sure I'll give it another chance myself.

Thanks! I think it's the fact that I really don't feel anything that's freaking me out. I'm freaking out over not freaking out? Something like that anyway. My coworkers enjoyed the cupcakes with black frosting I brought in this morning.

As for W13, I would quit watching now if Joe Flanigan weren't guest-starring in the episode after next. I'll watch the intervening ep to make sure I don't miss any major plot points, then his episode, then call it quits if the show hasn't grabbed me by then.

Ummmm.... sorry about that bummer ending to your big day. No love indeed.

I'm going to miss how cute they were together.

Happy birthday! Forty's not that old. I should know, it's slowly creeping up on me. And you're only as old as you feel, or act. So go ahead, act like you're not 30 yet. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks!

I think the disparity between how old I am and how old I feel is what's freaking me out right now. Anyway, I have a friend and coworker who's 16 years older than I am. She likes to tell me she has socks that are older than I am.

Happy Birthday!

I didn't really pay much attention to birthday numbers until my younger brother hit 30. But I certainly don't feel 36.

Thanks! I'm starting to think nobody actually feels their age based on what people have been telling me since yesterday. Except for my coworker, M. M is in her sixties and made sure to come over and tell me, very seriously, that my life was basically over and I should expect Alzheimer's to set in any day now. O_o I respectfully suggested that she lighten the hell up.

I'm late so I'll wish you a happy un-birthday today.
